“So, how’s it going then?”
“Oh! Mustn't grumble.”
“No! Not you silly! The Ringing World Centenary Day –
Saturday, 26th March 2011!”
“Oh, of course – sorry. I should have realised
”
“Come on then, tell me the latest
”

The conversation in the pub was brisk and urgent.
Having heard about The Ringing World Centenary
before he went on holiday, my ringing friend was
keen to know how things were progressing. And no doubt you are too.

Things are progressing rapidly. Many of our
planned events and activities are ‘coming
together’, and there will be a packed day of
entertainment with something of appeal to every
ringer from early in the morning until mid-evening.

We now have a confirmed venue for the “Ringing
World National Youth Contest” – St. Saviour’s
Church, Pimlico, by kind permission of the Parish
Priest, Revd Matthew Woodward and Tower Master,
Stephanie Pattenden. We have a Chief Judge, Simon
Linford, and young assistant judges who will be
named nearer the day. We have a generous offer of
a trophy for the winners from a Ringing World
Gold Sponsor, Whitechapel Bell Foundry Ltd. All
we need now are teams! (See front page).

The centrepiece of our day will be a unique and
unusual honour for the Exercise and The Ringing
World – a special Evensong at Westminster Abbey,
by kind permission of the Dean, The Very Revd Dr
John Hall. There will be additional opportunities
by prior arrangement to explore the Abbey and to
see its ringing chamber and bells.

As reported on the back page last week plans are
well advanced, for a reception hosted by The
Ringing World Ltd at Central Hall, Westminster,
just across the road from Westminster Abbey. Up
to 1,000 ringers will be able to enjoy light
refreshments. During the reception there will be
a record-breaking performance of change ringing
on 24 (yes, twenty four!) hand-bells. The
Chairman of The Ringing World, Jackie Roberts,
will say a few words of welcome and introduce the
prize-giving ceremony for the RW National Youth Contest.

There will be lots more information and news
about these and other aspects of our Centenary in
future editions of The Ringing World, as
arrangements are finalised. Up-to-the-minute RW
Centenary News is available to you on the web
site at www.ringingworld.co.uk. Why not register
for
<http://www.ringingworld.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/centenary_ringingworld.co.uk>e-mail
alerts and be among the first to be told of the developing plans?

Centenary Tickets are already on sale via the
website, and an order form for these, together
with 2011 diaries, calendars and other
merchandise will be included in The Ringing World before the end of this month.
