née Harrison 1965-2010

Michaela Perry, 45, died on 28th August 2010 in the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham following a seven-week battle against a major brain haemorrhage. She died peacefully with her family at her bedside.

Michaela was born in Leicester on 20th May 1965 to Gordon and Sheila Harrison. She studied Accountancy and Business Studies at Loughborough College and started work with the Leicestershire County Council in July 1983, specialising in accountancy and, latterly IT and accountancy.

Michaela married Craig Perry on 29th June, 1985 at Rothley Parish Church, and they spent 25 very happy years together.

Michaela and Craig both started to learn to ring at Rothley Tower in the early 1990s. Michaela quickly developed into a very proficient ringer and took over the responsibility of teaching bell ringing to newcomers. She often went to other local towers to help on their practice nights. Michaela also took on the mantle of leading up and down at Rothley. Oh, what a stare if the striking was not up to scratch.

Michaela rang in many peals and quarter peals and enjoyed joining outings organised by local towers. She also rang quite often in Norfolk when staying at the family caravan. For some time she served on the local Guild Committee.

Michaela had many interests in addition to ringing. She was a very keen gardener and shared an allotment with a friend. She was the Membership Secretary of the children’s charity ‘Heartlink’ based at the Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. She was a brilliant cook and loved baking. Alongside Craig, she was a member of the National Trust, English Heritage and the RSPB.

On 8th of September, at Michaela’s Service of Thanksgiving, Rothley Parish Church was packed with family, work colleagues, friends, bell ringers, and many others whose life she had touched in some way. There was standing room only.

Michaela will be sadly missed by her husband, family and her many friends.
