Andrew Pollock

Andrew died peacefully at home on 30th March, following a short illness. He was 77.

We have lost a real gentleman and a truly valued friend. Andy was a wonderful father and family man and was well respected and trusted by so many people. He took a full part in community life, from school, Scouts and Village Hall to bell ringing – where  he was using his great teaching skills to the end. He could spin a really good story too.

Andrew started ringing at Lyndhurst in 1979. He never had ambitions to be a high-flying peal ringer but he was never happier than when he was teaching and encouraging new recruits. He had been a teacher throughout his working life and his teaching and people skills really showed in the ringing chamber. Andrew was one of those who, when he said he would do something, did it to the best of his ability. He single-handedly refurbished the ringing chamber at Lyndhurst, installing timber panelling; he started a beginners’ practice at Minstead on Wednesday mornings; he was always there when things needed to be done.

We have lost a good man and a great friend. It was a pleasure and honour to know him.
