The Ringing World is run by a small staff team and supported by specialist contractors and volunteers. Together they produce the weekly journal, maintain and develop BellBoard, organise the Ringing World National Youth Contest and support our wider publishing and charitable work.
Beyond those named here, The Ringing World depends on a much wider circle of volunteers: proofreaders, indexers, photographers, RWNYC helpers, and the many ringers who give their time to individual projects. We can’t list them all.
Most importantly, thanks to all our volunteer writers who enable us to record the history of ringing every week.
Our Christmas cards and gifts are on sale now, including 2027 calendars and diaries, and other new products.
Will has been Editor and Manager of The Ringing World since 2019. He leads the charity’s editorial, operational and strategic work, with responsibility across the weekly journal, its publishing programme, BellBoard, the Ringing World National Youth Contest and a wide range of development projects.
His background combines music, academic research and teaching. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge on the music of Brahms, sings as a tenor in the choir of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, and works as a freelance pianist. He learnt to ring in Dorset as a child, did too much of it as a student in Birmingham and Cambridge and now rings in Dublin. He hopes that The Ringing World always remains as passionate and eclectic as its readers: community, education, history, theory, statistics, photography, opinion – and occasionally even entertainment.
Trisha joined the Ringing World in 2022 following several years working for and around the Church of England and the Anglican Communion. Born in Canada, she learned to ring in Cape Town, where a small but dedicated band keeps the Cathedral bells going and always welcomes visitors from abroad. While in South Africa, Trisha was involved in the early days of online news reporting, as well as working in traditional print magazine and book publishing. She recently left London for the Isle of Wight and welcomes visitors to a few local towers.
Jo is the first point of contact in the office, dealing with queries relating to subscriptions, BellBoard, advertising and notices plus any shop orders or queries. Having worked in the publishing industry from the age of 18 and as editor of her school magazine, Jo has always had a love for media. With her husband she raises two children and a dog who all enjoy campervan holidays and long dog walks in the countryside.
Christine coordinates and oversees all aspects of the accounting process at The Ringing World on a part-time basis. Whilst juggling life as a busy working Mum, she occasionally finds the luxury of spare time to indulge her enthusiasm for gardening and following country pursuits.
Sarah has over 20 years’ experience in graphic design, working on books, magazines, marketing materials and websites. She came to The Ringing World in 2016 as a non-ringer providing holiday cover, and took over responsibility for designing the magazine in 2021. Sarah started ringing during the Ring for the King campaign and is now an ART accredited teacher. When she’s not working for RW or ringing bells, she runs her own embroidery business, creating all kinds of personalised clothing and gifts.
Jo has been RWNYC Organiser since 2023, ensuring that the Ringing World National Youth Contest can successfully accommodate the growing number of young ringers who attend each year, while adapting to a different location and host committee annually. This requires close collaboration with a new local organising team each year to tailor the event to the facilities, opportunities and constraints of the host venue.
Over time, the event has expanded significantly and now includes five striking competitions, open towers, mini rings, handbell workshops and a results ceremony. As RWNYC Organiser, Jo’s responsibilities span event management, communications, safeguarding and overall logistics. Balancing these diverse areas makes the role both challenging and highly rewarding.
When Jo is not involved with the Youth Contest, life is kept busy by her toddler and two dogs. Professionally, Jo works in the electricity industry for SSE, a leading generator of renewable and flexible energy in Great Britain and one of the fastest-growing electricity network companies.
Unsurprisingly, Jo doesn’t have a great deal of time for ringing at the moment, but when she can, she rings at Christ Church and the other college towers in central Oxford. She especially enjoys helping at local practices, supporting the teaching of both young ringers and adult learners.
Richard Smith wrote the BellBoard website for The Ringing World in early 2012 and continues to be its main developer. The site has expanded greatly since its conception and is now the most popular ringing website in the world. Richard also maintains the cluster of servers which runs BellBoard, and maintains and develops the Dove Guide’s website for the Central Council. He enjoys the technical challenge of keeping these two important sites operating smoothly under ever-increasing use in a constantly evolving online environment.
Although a physicist by training, Richard has worked as a software developer and more recently as systems administrator and company director. He is one of the founders of Mythic Beasts Ltd, a privately owned internet hosting provider with a focus on providing services to technically capable customers.
Most of Richard’s ringing is done in Cambridge, primarily at Great St Mary’s and on the glorious heavy eight at Our Lady and the English Martyrs where he is deputy tower captain. He also enjoys researching the history of change ringing, and occasionally writing about it for The Ringing World. When he is not ringing or working, Richard enjoys walking, especially in the mountains, exploring the world, cooking and reading.
The weekly journal is printed and dispatched by Pyramid Press.

The Ringing World is overseen by a Board, who are both charity trustees and company directors.
